Today we chat with Sizzy about her relationship with sensuality and how it affects her art and influence.
— First things first, tell me how your day is going! If you’ve had a morning beverage, what was it and why do you drink it?
Good morning!!! My day is going amazing. I love morning time, it's my favorite part of the day. I wake up around 7:30 and drink athletic greens first thing to wake up my body, then I have a 4 shot almond milk latte and hit a workout. Intense, I know! But I like to kickstart the day with rockstar level energy so that by noon when I show up at the studio I'm ready to ROCK N ROLL.
— Is there anything you’re looking forward to this year?
I have an insane project coming out this summer...I can't say what it is yet but if you're a real fan of music and pop culture it's pretty mind-blowing. I've been working on it for the past 3 months and I absolutely can't wait to show you.
— You’ve always been a muse for how you express sensuality. During our shoot, we talked a bit about the balance between softness and assertiveness. Can you talk about that a little bit?
Ahhhh yes...my soft side! I loved working on this shoot with you because I feel like visually, especially for the past year during the ANARCHY era, I worked hard to channel my inner punk and chose to exploit the tougher side of my artistry.
It felt powerful, and that's the side of myself I usually summon whenever I face the world. It's the easiest for me to access and as a female working in the boys club that is the music industry I've spent a lot of time in that masculine, dominant space. Honestly, I thrive in that space! So it's rare for me to show my vulnerability.
Lately, it feels like I've reached a place in my artistry where I want to approach my work and the world with more softness. I've been cultivating my feminine energy. It's so important and I think a major key to healing, personally and culturally!
— Tell me about a moment you felt like you were in tune with your sensual self.
Fun fact! I take bubble baths every single day - with rose petals, oils, the works! When I come home from the studio it's my safe place, away from the world and completely alone with time to reflect on my art and just let myself *be*. That's where I feel the most in tune with my sensual self - submerged in rose petals and scalding hot water.
— What song allows you to tap into your sensuality most during a performance?
I haven't gotten to perform any songs from ANARCHY live yet because of the pandemic but I loved performing "Tattoos" on the GRRRL tour - I think that song does a great job of balancing the tension between aggressive desire and soft, gay sensuality. And it just pops OFF live!
— Go back about three years. What dating and or sex advice would you give to yourself?
Oooof. Do NOT ignore the red flags, honey. If it feels like something's up, it is. Listen to your intuition and never, ever stay in a one-sided relationship. All of that energy trying to fix something that was destined to break could've been spent on bettering yourself and your art.
— Sex can be a difficult subject. Why do you think that is?
I think sex is taboo for us because it is deeply vulnerable and complex. It forces us to reckon with our humanity because our bodies are everything - our identities, the way we see ourselves in the world, how we communicate, how we trust. For me, sex is a source of my feminine power - I can feel protective of it!
— Who has undeniable sensual energy that you look up to?
I love the artist Signe Pierce - if you haven't heard of her please look up her work. She is a true goddess and a master of sensual, healing energy.
